Could I use a Genesis model 1 on a Sega CD model 2 without the side adapter?

I may buy a Sega CD model 2 soon, but I only have a model 1 Genesis. Since the original Genesis hangs a little on the side of the Sega CD 2 since it's longer an adapter can be hooked on to it to make it rest evenly. Would not having that adapter affect it's
